Abstract

The article deals with the determination of initial conditions in a mixed problem for a two-dimensional hyperbolic equation. First, the uniqueness of the solution to the corresponding initial–boundary value problem is established. Then, by imposing certain restrictions on the given data, the existence of a solution to this problem is demonstrated. Furthermore, existence and uniqueness theorems are proved for the associated inverse problem of determining the initial conditions.
